Hours:
This position works 2080 hours each year. During our busy season, January through mid-April, our tax staff work an average of 57 hours per week. Outside of tax season our team works a 3-4 day work week, with our offices being closed on Fridays. Our Training Supervisor role will take an estimated 300 hours per year of that time.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Tax Staff Accountant to join our team and take on the additional responsibility of Training Supervisor for the firm. This dual-role position combines technical tax expertise with a passion for mentoring and developing others. The ideal candidate will play a vital role as a tax staff accountant, while designing and implementing training programs that support professional growth and excellence across the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Staff Accountant Duties:
- Completion of tax returns, financial statements and other accounting related tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor.
- Prepare, examine and evaluate accounting records, financial statements, and other required financial reports according to approved procedures to obtain accuracy, completeness and reporting conformance.
- Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns according to approved procedures, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting and other tax requirements.
- Evaluate business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations to project future revenues and expenses.
- Provide ongoing client support, as directed by the Department Supervisor, by systematically gathering information, adjusting journal entries, keeping records, examining reports, answering questions and providing ongoing technical assistance.
- Execute and support quality control procedures to ensure firm operations align with best practices and reporting documents comply with AICPA standards.
- Log services provided so records are consistently accurate, updated and available.
Training Supervisor Duties:
- Work with the Department Supervisors and Technical Reviewers to research, plan, and coordinate training programs, seminars and conferences for all staff and departments (but heavily weighted to Tax/A&A/Client Management), with assistance from the Training Coordinators.
- Develop, organize, and oversee the firm’s training programs for staff at all levels and departments.
- Stay informed on industry trends, tax law updates, and best practices to integrate into training content.
- Gather feedback and communicate key take-aways from training sessions.
- Find and develop internal trainers to foster a culture of learning and knowledge sharing.
- Monitor and assess training effectiveness, gathering feedback to improve programs and align them with firm goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA certification preferred.
- 3+ years of public accounting experience with a strong tax background.
- Demonstrated experience or interest in mentoring, training, or staff development.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong technical skills with an aptitude for explaining complex concepts in an accessible manner.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- A proactive and collaborative mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
